Summer has been here for a few weeks and some of us… well…
Some of us still need that extra push to get off of the couch and hit the pavement! Personally, I challenged myself to get out the house and get in shape by signing up for a half marathon (13.1 miles)! Your goals for fitness may not be that ambitious and quite frankly, it can be hard to get motivated to work out. Have no fear, my friends! I’ve complied a list of cool gear, apps and gadgets that will have you shuffling your schedule to accommodate “gym time”!
The Ultimate “Locked and Loaded” Sports Bra
I don’t know about you, but when I have a new sports bra I feel obligated to test it out. I get so excited about the newness that I find myself taking it back to my middle school days and setting out my workout clothes for the next day (and I may even model in the mirror). Discount stores such as TJ Maxx, Marshalls and Sports Authority have great deals on gear, but nothing tops my favorite sports bra right now: The Victoria Secret Incredible Sports Bra. Fits like a glove! And guess what? The girls don’t budge. Lastly, the colors are bright and fun, the perfect pick-me-up for an early morning workout!
The App That Will Make You Run More Laps
If you don’t like running or just need that extra “umph” to get you going, I’ve found that Nike+ Running App is the way to go. I’ve tried a variety of apps, but this one takes the cake. Not only do you accumulate badges based on progress, but you can also join challenges and compete against your friends to get ‘ta moving! My favorite feature of the app? When you’re almost at your goal, you’ll get some motivational words from some of the greatest runners in the US and it will even play your favorite song or “Power Song” that magically gets your feet moving the fastest they can go! Test it out and see for yourself!
The Fashionable “I’ll Even Run to the Mailbox Just to Wear Them” Running Shoes
Now, now… I could say so much about running shoes, but what I would highly suggest is going to a running store and consulting with a professional about the shoes that would best suit you. Since I am telling you about cool gear, check out these Gel-Noosa Tri9 by Asics – the colors alone keep me inspired to keep moving! They are designed for Triatheles, or people who swim, bike and run for a set amount of miles. While I don’t run those types of races, I do bike and run so BOOM – perfect for me. Best thing about them is I scored them for the low-low and they are super comfy! These sneaks are great for long distances, too!
The Watch That Measures Your Workout
This is definitely on my “to-get” list! No more trying to figure out what your body is saying or trying to count your footsteps in your head… no more of it! With the Polar GPS Watch, not only is this watch GPS enabled, it also monitors your heart rate, allows you to set fitness goals, and comes in various cool colors! There are different types of software that cater to cross-training, running, and swimming in the watches which may be why the prices also vary. But after seeing a few of my friends with it, I know it is an awesome investment.
The “Save Your Curls” Headband
But pRoy, what about some gear that will preserve your curls while you work out? Ladies, I want to say I have found the Holy Grail, but … yea, no. There is no “one size fits all” when it comes to a way to preserve your hairstyles and your curls while you’re working out. But I can tell you my secret to keeping the sweat contained and the hairline laid: a sleeve from an old t-shirt. That’s right, I cut the sleeves off my old t-shirts and wear them as headbands. It’s cheap and efficient and works for me! Curls stay on poppington!
