Back in December 2013, I was a hair model for a color technique class for professional stylists. So of course, I had to get my hair colored but didn’t have much say as to what color and where the color was placed. What I ended up with was vibrant red and copper colored sections in the center of my head. At first, I really liked the color because it was so vibrant and fun. But I never liked the placement. Then about two weeks in, I was over it. The placement really looked awkward, which was glaringly apparent when a co-worker said ‘I like the red streak in your hair; that’s cool.’ We all know what that means. The color was too vibrant for me, and day by day it reminded me that I didn’t have the color that I really wanted. But what was I going to do about it?
I thought I was stuck with it and figured I’d charge it to the game. It was a free service after all. I’d either wait for it to grow out or just cut it all off and start over. Yes, I was so over it that I was seriously planning to just chop it off until a few weeks ago. I stopped by my longtime friend Hadney’s salon. Shalleen of NaturalHairDoesCare was getting her hair done, so I went to chat it up with her. Next thing I know, Hadney has me scheduled for color correction services.
Corrective color – now why didn’t I think of that? Hadney not only specializes in cutting but also coloring, and I knew I could trust her to give me a new color that I would love. She also was concerned about the integrity of my hair, which was very important to me as well. I also know where Hadney lives…
Hadney listened to my concerns about my hair color and took time to examine my hair to ensure that nothing she did was going to compromise the integrity of my hair. She took her time with every step, and also took every opportunity to explain what she was doing, what products she was using, and why. She reminded me of what to do and not to do once I was home, and she checked in with me during the week after to see if I was having any issues. We also scheduled a follow up appointment in six weeks so that she can re-evaluate my hair and treat it as necessary.
I absolutely love my new hair color, and I’m so happy that I took Hadney up on her offer. If you’re bored with your hair color, consider going to a professional hair stylist who specializes in coloring. A professional colorist has the know-how to ensure the color fits you, is applied correctly, and maintains your hair’s integrity. These things will give you a color that you’ll enjoy in the long run.
