As a member of the Magical Black Girl Coalition, I am a staunch practitioner of #blackgirlworship. That being said, consider the following words and gifs my public profession of love for the refreshing, the exquisite, the unmatched Chescaleigh.
Oh, Franchesca. I’m an OG fan.
I have all your mixtapes, bruh I’ve watched your videos for the better part of a decade. What, 2008? 2007? I was but a swaddling babe…
My first Youtube friends were loc’d guys, and they led me to your channel. It felt like I was watching myself. I still feel that way. Your everything resonates with me.
Youtube’s all guru-ed up now, and in an Internet world of formulaic personalities and “aspirational” faces, I’m in love with you and your content because…well…you’re weird, sis. You’re a weirdo.
See, somewhere along the way, I also became a Youtuber. Every time I filmed a video, I had to be okay with how much of my weird I let seep through. Would anybody get me? Am I too much?
See??!? You be knowin’. The faces, the impressions, the parodies, the body language. You’re confident in your sense of humor. And even if you secretly aren’t all the time, posting videos in spite of that gives me someone to admire. We can be comedians and storytellers and connect with millions of earthlings. We can be gorgeous and creative and be our own damn characters in our own damn skits!!
The simple fact that I don’t have locs yet and I watch every Chescalocs video is a testament to your enchanting qualities. This is a natural hair site, so allow me to gush over dem tresses, gurl. You taught me how to keep it simple and be patient. People are out here doing the most to their follicles, and you’re out here thriving from root to tip!
Your videos crack me up, make me think, and keep me dreaming n’ scheming. You chat with your supporters. You add to important conversations in a positive, constructive way. You have the self control of a saint, the way people come for you in the comments section sometimes…
Shut up – this is cheesy, I know, but I love you for being yourself. Folks can talk about positive representations of black women in the media all day and they still won’t agree, but I know and you know that it’s not just about archetypes. It’s about agency.
Because of Youtube, Magical Black Girls are out here being themselves, for themselves, no matter what form that comes in. We outchea. Holler!
I’ve had the honor, along with a couple hundred thousand of your other subscribers, of watching you grow and get some of the recognition you deserve. There’s more in store for you yet – I can feel it in my chakras, shawty.
Anyway, since February is the month of love, I wanted to put some positive words into the ether for you. Soak in my good vibes! SOAK THEM!
CAN YOU FEEL MY LOVE THROUGH THE SCREEN??!
Wishing you continued success, laid edges, and Lupita Nyong’o levels of flawlessness. To infinity and beyond.
